DJ Myles: Biography

Drawn to Dance Music in the late 1980s, his relentless passion
for electronic music grew from frequenting clubs in his home town in
Scotland such as The Sub Club, The Arches & The Tunnel. Myles’ first
break was at Mass in South London in 2000 – moving onto DJ at clubs
all over the City, playing sets for up to 6 hours.
DJ Myles reflects on his early experiences of the music that has rocked Dance floors around the World for over 2 decades
Speaking on his early musical influences "The guys who inspired me
were Orde Meikle and Harri from the Club in my home town and
producers like Frankie Knuckles, Lil’ Louis and Masters At Work”.
Myles explains “…it sounds cliché but I can honestly say that this
wasn’t just music; it was a movement, it was our time, a whole new
way of life. These DJ’s were producing and playing a new kind of
music that inspired me, music full of positive energy and
connectivity; I went to Clubs every weekend and danced all night”.
Captivated by the scene in London, Myles moved to the UK’s capital
in ’99 and began developing and maturing his DJ style –
experimenting with sounds as diverse as Jazz, Disco, deep-house,
soulful, Latin grooves and funky house. Myles’ unique varied style
and dedication to the art of programming music have rewarded him
with several residencies and guest slots in the UK.
Myles has been sighted at almost all of the former
super clubs in London, including Pacha, The End, Turnmills and more.
On the International Stage, Myles has DJ’d in hotspots such as Paris, Czech Republic
and in New York City. Myles’ mixshows have featured on the
Muschitunes Record Label website as well as receiving airplay on
Novaradio [Munich / Berlin], Radio 42 [online] & Radio Almere
[Netherlands].
In 2003, Myles won the Defected
Records DJ Competition; his mix was featured on the site
alongside some of biggest names in the industry. At the same time,
Myles also launched his Radio Show “Nakedsoul” on Tokyma.FM and
Handzonradio.fm and has never missed a beat since.
Pioneering the house sound in London, Myles also promotes his own
night Nakedsoul, playing regular DJ sets as well as fulfilling other
guest slots at venues throughout the City.
